Christ—the Power and Wisdom of God from our Bible Studies

This week I have been enjoying two verses, 1 Corinthians 1:18-19, “For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of those who understand I will set aside.’” As in the church in Corinth, we may consider ourselves wise or prudent in our pursuit of God. But it is not the wisdom that God desires; God’s desire is for us to take the crucified Christ as our source of life. Our situation today is very reminiscent to the church in Corinth, as we can also be those who are perishing. But we have Christ being the “power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24). It gives us believers reassurance that God’s power can overcome the world’s foolishness, as God’s foolishness is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men (1 Corinthians 1:25). For the word of the cross is the power of God.
