This week we got into 1 Corinthians 3. I enjoyed verse 12, “But if anyone builds upon the foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood grass, stubble”, and saw that there is a difference between the gold, silver, and precious stones, the materials that are useful for building, and the wood, grass, and stubble, which are not useful for building. The building here is the building of the church (vv. 10-11). As believers we need to be builded not by our own fleshy or fleshly ways apart from Christ (vv. 1, 3), because these will be tested by fire (v. 13). But instead, we should be those who are taking Christ and are transformed in this way so that we can be built up with the other believers, not just for ourselves, but for the church. Even by ourselves we can only enjoy so much, but with the other believers, like in Bible study, we’re forming something precious, something that can withstand the test of fire. We need Christ, we need the growth in life, we need the transformation (2 Cor 3:18) to build up God’s church, which is what is on His heart.
