Starting the Day with the Lord

Updated: Oct 22

Getting up early in the morning can be a struggle for most college students, especially if it is for an 8am class. In an effort to wrangle my sleep schedule into something acceptable, I started spending time with a few other club members in the morning to pray and try to touch the Lord. At 7:15am. Every weekday. Yep.

I’m not going to lie, it was hard at first. I’m an early riser, but my brain doesn’t turn on until about two hours after I physically get out of bed. How am I supposed to touch the Lord in this sort of state? Well, a prayer that has been recurring during my morning times with the club members is, “Lord, wash me from my night! Wake me up!” We are all tired and a little sleep-deprived, but no matter what condition we are in, we can come to the Lord and ask Him to wake us up and enliven us. I’ve found that my time with Him in the mornings sets the mood for the rest of my day. There is no better way to start your day than with the Lord.

After a few weeks of doing this, I can’t imagine what my morning would look like without prayer and singing. What started as a way to wake up in the morning has turned into a time where I can genuinely enjoy and touch the Lord!
