Not Anxious for Tomorrow!

Matthew 6:34 says, “therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself; sufficient for the day is its own evil.” As college students, we are often anxious about our future: am I prepared for the midterm next week? How should I study? What about finals? What classes should I take next semester? Can I find an internship during the summer? What career should I choose?

Our lives in this modern world are full of and even governed by this anxiety for the future. But is tomorrow with all its uncertainties in our own control? Here, the Lord is telling us to not worry so much about tomorrow. Rather, focus on living today. He wants us to simply turn to Him each day and give this day to Him. Even if the day will be full of its evil, troubles, and afflictions, we have nothing to be anxious about. He knows all our needs (6:34), all the difficulties we are facing. And He is the faithful One. As long as we turn to Him, we can cast all our anxiety on Him. It matters to Him concerning us, and He will take care of us (1 Peter 5:7). We just need to turn to Him every morning and ask Him to grant us today’s supply of grace. We can tell Him all our concerns throughout the day and give each decision to Him. The Lord will supply us the exact portion we need, and guide us to the best path to go through each day. And as we learn to live by His life and submit to His ruling, we will be deeper rooted in Him and have more growth in life.
