Throughout my Christian life I’ve really appreciated being with other believers with whom I can love the Lord. 2 Tim. 2:22 says, “But flee youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” I’m grateful to the Lord that He has not demanded that I live the Christian life or run the Christian race by myself, but rather, that He has provided me with many companions. Often, when I know I’ve failed and I sense that the Lord is trying to get me to turn my heart to Him again, I’m either too tired, too weak, too discouraged, or too stubborn to do it. But many times, He sends me the encouragement and reminders I need through other believers.

I remember coming home one night with a couple of sisters that I live with and finding a rather irritating situation to deal with. At first we stood there complaining with each other about why that problem kept recurring, but the more we tried to figure things out the more frustrated we became. Finally the three of us just realized that we needed to stop thinking about it and turn to the Lord. We went into my room and prayed to turn back to Him, and the result was a really enjoyable time of praying, touching the Lord, and being reminded by Him that every situation is for us to gain Him.

One of the things I appreciate most about this experience is that I did not have to go through it by myself. Knowing my track record, if I had been alone, I probably would have ignored the Lord’s prodding me to pray, but being with two other sisters at that moment strengthened all of us to turn to the Lord together. The Lord reminded me again that He has put me with “those who call on the Lord” so that we can mutually encourage one another and be positive factors in one another’s Christian lives.
