The Renewing of Our Mind

This week in our Bible studies, we continued with Romans 12. Verse 2 says “And do not be fashioned according to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and well pleasing and perfect.” Here we see that God’s will for our salvation is that we would be transformed so that we would express Him more, that He would spread from our spirit to our souls, the leading part of which is our mind. I always thought this renewing was changing what I was thinking, but it was brought out that the original Greek word for “mind” doesn’t just refer to our thoughts but the way that we perceive things and our perception. So as our minds are being renewed we’re actually taking God’s perspective of those around us and of our experiences. This is how we’re then brought into the experience of the Body life in the later verses. Verses 4 and 5 say “For just as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function, so we who are many are one Body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” This is the goal of God’s salvation, not just transformed individuals but a corporate expression. Lord, renew our minds to see more of your Body!
